Having made his name in distant war zones we are delighted to welcome Fergal Keane to discuss his memoir The Madness: A Memoir of War, Fear and PTSD (Harper Collins, 2022).

Following the tenuous lines between the horror and enticing nature of war, Fergal offers a multifaceted and honest view on the realities of journalism along with the devastating personal impacts that surface.

Fellow journalist and writer Babita Sharma will guide a discussion on war, addiction and the moments of beauty that can be held onto in the face of atrocities.

Fergal Keane is one of the BBC’s most distinguished correspondents and an award-winning broadcaster and author. He has been awarded a BAFTA and named reporter of the year on television and radio, winning honours from the Royal Television Society and the Sony Radio Awards. He has also been named Report of the Year in the Amnesty International Press Awards and the Edward R. Murrow Award from the US Overseas Press Association.

Babita Sharma is the author of the critically acclaimed non-fiction book The Corner Shop and the upcoming children’s book series The Adventures of Priya Mistry. A former BBC News Anchor, Babita spent ten years covering major global stories for BBC World News, including Cop 27, the Covid-19 pandemic, the US Elections 2020, the Black Lives Matter protests and the award-winning BBC 100 Women series. She has presented several television documentaries, including the landmark BBC Two series Dangerous Borders: The Story of India & Pakistan, where Babita followed in the footsteps of her family, who were directly affected by the Partition of India. Babita is on the Board of Trustees for United for Global Mental Health, Patron of the South Asian Heritage Trust and Distinguished Friend of the Migration Museum.
